Introducing a denim jacket faithfully reproduced from the 1936 model.

The tuck buttons on the front and cuffs are one of the early features that changed from small buttons for the fly of pants to full-size buttons for the top.

The 13.5 oz. selvedge denim with orange stitching reminiscent of the prewar period and the light-weight denim lining of the left breast pocket flap make this a supreme piece that lets you fully enjoy the atmosphere of 1936.

Despite its American-sounding name, SUGAR CANE is actually the first postwar Japanese manufacturer to produce U.S.-bound garments. Founded in 1965 to supply clothing for U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan, the brand initially focused on items for military base workers. After the Vietnam War, it shifted toward the domestic market while preserving uncompromising “authentic American workwear” quality—especially in denim, a category for which the brand is now widely respected.

13.5oz Selvedge Denim—rugged yet surprisingly comfortable.
Every step—spinning, dyeing, weaving, and sewing—is carefully controlled to recreate vintage denim. The 13.5oz selvedge is woven from uneven No.7 yarns in both warp and weft, giving the fabric a rich, textured character.

It maintains just the right amount of ruggedness, yet the one-wash finish gives it a soft, broken-in feel from day one. Expect beautiful aging and color fades—the pleasure of wearing denim that truly evolves with you.

Faithfully reproduced vintage details
The action pleats on both sides of the front placket were originally designed to increase mobility for laborers. They were even sometimes unstitched to widen the fit, adjusting the garment to the wearer’s needs.
