Based on a 1936-era denim jacket and waist overalls from the same period, this 2025 model has been reconstructed with a modern sense of balance.
The fabric is a 13.5oz selvedge denim, carefully woven using intentionally uneven yarns to recreate an authentic vintage texture. The result is a rich, deep expression with character that develops beautifully over time.
While retaining the wide silhouette reminiscent of work pants from the era, traditional details such as suspender buttons and a cinch back have been intentionally omitted, creating a clean and versatile design suited for everyday wear.
True to the name of the STANDARD DENIM series, this thoughtfully crafted piece is refined down to the smallest details. With continued wear, it will age uniquely, becoming a pair that truly feels your own.

SUGAR CANE
With a name that literally means “sugar cane,” this distinctly American-sounding brand is in fact Japan’s first postwar apparel manufacturer established for the U.S. market. Founded in 1965 to produce garments for the U.S. military, SUGAR CANE initially supplied clothing to personnel connected with U.S. bases. After the Vietnam War, the brand shifted its focus to the domestic market, continuing to uphold authentic, field-tested quality in American-style workwear—particularly denim. 
Rugged aging shaped by irregularly spun yarns
Every stage of production—from spinning and dyeing to weaving and sewing—is carefully considered to recreate the character of vintage denim. This 13.5oz selvedge denim is woven using irregularly spun No.7 yarns for both the warp and weft, resulting in a fabric with remarkable depth and a richly expressive texture.
Pre-war details, reinterpreted for today
The button-fly front is a classic detail rooted in workwear history, designed for easy fastening even while wearing thick gloves.
Faithfully incorporating pre-war details such as crotch rivets and right-leaning center-back seam construction, the design remains minimal by omitting a cinch back and suspender buttons. 
Selvedge fabric is used at the edge of the coin pocket opening, reinforced with punched copper rivets.
It’s a highly refined design that blends historically rooted details with modern practicality. 
An iconic new green flasher tag is also included. 
A wide straight silhouette where classic meets modern
Finished in a generously wide silhouette from thigh to hem, this work-pant style preserves the spirit of the 1930s while maintaining a natural width that blends seamlessly into modern styling. The result is a look that feels rugged yet refined, never overly heavy. 
As selvedge denim woven on vintage shuttle looms, rolling up the hem reveals the selvedge edge as a subtle accent. A new standard denim that brings vintage heritage into the present day.
