BUZZ RICKSONS / Pea-Coat NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY
BUZZ RICKSON’S introduces a pea coat faithfully reproducing the early model adopted for U.S. Navy petty officers in the 1910s.
The outer fabric is made from densely woven, heavyweight melton wool. Designed for harsh conditions at sea, it features functional details including a large collar and chin strap to block cold winds, along with a double-breasted front with overlapping panels for enhanced protection.
Authentic period details have been carefully recreated, including buttons engraved with 13 stars and anchor motifs. Combining a substantial military presence with a refined appearance, this genuine pea coat pairs effortlessly with everything from denim to slacks, making it an ideal winter essential for the modern gentleman.

BUZZ RICKSONS
Founded in 1993, BUZZ RICKSONS is a brand dedicated to preserving the history and pride of flight jackets. Each reproduction is created with meticulous attention to detail based on original military specifications, from yarn spinning and weaving to fabric selection, military-grade components, and overall silhouette. Through uncompromising craftsmanship, the brand faithfully recreates the unique appeal and character of vintage military jackets.

Dense Melton Wool Creating a Rich, Substantial Texture
The outer shell is made from densely woven, heavyweight melton wool. Its tightly woven construction helps keep cold winds at bay, offering the reliable protection expected of a pea coat designed for harsh conditions at sea.
The substantial thickness and structure help maintain the beautifully shaped collar and body silhouette. A smooth rayon satin lining makes it easy to layer over thick knitwear and sweatshirts while maintaining comfortable movement.

A Large Collar Designed to Block Cold Winds
The neckline features the oversized collar that defines early-model pea coats. Turn the collar up and fasten the chin strap to help keep cold air from reaching the face.
More than just a bold design feature, this practical detail reflects the pea coat’s original purpose of protecting against strong winds at sea.

13-Star Buttons Symbolizing the Early Model
The buttons feature the early design engraved with anchor motifs and 13 stars. The 13 stars represent the original thirteen states of the United States at the time of independence.
This detail was discontinued after the 1930s and remains an iconic feature identifying the 1910s-era model.
The front uses a double-breasted construction with deeply overlapping panels. Recreating the original pea coat design, it allows the front closure to be fastened from either side depending on wind direction, preserving its practical naval function.
The pockets feature vertical slit openings for easy hand access. The interior uses corduroy fabric, allowing them to function as hand warmers to comfortably warm cold hands.
The interior features an authentic “NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY” label. By faithfully recreating not only the fabric and components but also the details of its original production, BUZZ RICKSON’S achieves an exceptional level of historical authenticity.

A Classic Silhouette with Rugged Character and Refined Style
The straight silhouette offers comfortable room through the body and shoulders. The thick, structured melton wool helps the coat retain its shape, balancing rugged military character with the refined look of a classic coat.
Pair it with denim and military pants for a rugged Americana look, or style it with slacks and leather shoes for a more polished outfit. With its timeless design, this pea coat is a dependable winter staple that can be worn for years to come.
