The Roots of the G9
The Miller brothers, founders of the brand, were both avid golfers. In 1937, inspired by British Army jumpers, they created the prototype of the G9 as a garment suited for golf. The name derives from the first letter of “Golf.”

Founded in 1937 in Manchester, England, by the Miller brothers, BARACUTA began with innovative rainwear offering exceptional water repellency and wind resistance. Since the birth of the G9 as outerwear for golf, it has become the prototype of what we now call the blouson—an enduring classic loved around the world.
Refined Lightness in Crisp Polycotton
The outer fabric is a structured polyester-cotton blend with body and resilience, finished with a subtle sheen that lends a refined, understated elegance. Durable and quick-drying, it balances practical performance with the ease of a light layer you can reach for without hesitation.
With the lining minimized, the jacket remains light and breathable—ideal for effortless layering and temperature regulation in warmer seasons.
Unchanged, Iconic Details
The “dog ear” collar—named for its resemblance to a dog’s drooping ears—is a signature G9 detail. Worn up, it creates a relaxed sophistication; buttoned closed, it enhances wind protection.
Originally designed as golfwear, the jacket features raglan sleeves for ease of movement. The generously cut armholes allow comfortable layering, even over wider T-shirts.
The front double zip expands styling possibilities, adjusting the silhouette with subtle shifts in balance.
Side pockets are secured with buttoned flaps to prevent items from falling out. An additional buttoned patch pocket is placed inside at the left chest.
The ribbed cuffs provide a comfortable, secure fit at the wrists. Durable polyester and nylon are used for enhanced longevity.
The back features the distinctive umbrella yoke, designed to allow rain to run off smoothly—an element that combines functional design with visual character.
Though the lining has been pared back, tartan piping remains—an understated detail that reflects thoughtful craftsmanship.
