SUN SURF is a brand dedicated to recreating the Hawaiian shirts produced during the 1930s through the 1950s, widely regarded as the golden age of aloha shirts. Founded in the 1970s, SUN SURF has collected and analyzed thousands of vintage Hawaiian shirts as reference pieces since its founding. To reproduce the vivid colors and richly layered tones of the originals, the brand recreates traditional printing techniques of the era, including discharge printing and overprinting. Through meticulous attention to every detail, SUN SURF brings numerous masterpieces back to life, allowing more people to experience the appeal of rare and highly sought-after vintage Hawaiian shirts.
The Refined Feel of Rayon Habutae
Rayon habutae is a plain-woven fabric made with rayon filament yarns used for both the warp and weft.
Capturing the feel of habutae, a traditional silk textile, in rayon, it is characterized by an elegant luster, a smooth touch, and excellent moisture absorption and release properties.
Discharge Printing with Authentic Vintage Character
The pattern is created using the traditional technique of discharge printing. By removing color from selected areas of the fabric to reveal the design, the print appears naturally integrated into the material.
