For designer and president Isono, that means resisting the idea of clothing as something to constantly consume and replace. Instead, FOB makes clothes to live in — pieces that soften, fade, crease, and become more personal the longer you wear them.
Durable materials, everyday comfort, and silhouettes that aren’t dependent on a single season or trend.
Denim, especially, isn’t meant to stay exactly as it looked on day one.
It’s meant to become yours.

Made in Japan Isn’t the Point
“Made in Japan” gets used a lot in menswear. But Isono is reluctant to treat it as a guarantee of quality.
For FOB, what matters is how something is made.
The brand continues to work with old sewing machines, traditional construction methods, specialist factories, and fabrics produced using processes that have largely disappeared from modern mass manufacturing.
FOB deliberately leaves a certain roughness and irregularity in its clothes — the kind of character that disappears when production becomes too efficient and too perfect.
It isn’t about making something look old.
It’s about preserving the methods that gave old clothes their character in the first place.
When the Machine Becomes Part of the Design
Walk through FOB’s factory and you’ll find both modern equipment and machines that have been working for decades.
Some details we now think of as “vintage design” weren’t really designed at all. They were the result of how the machines worked at the time.
FOB understands those details because they still work with the machines and techniques that created them.
And operating them takes more than simply pressing a pedal.
It takes experience.
Before It Becomes a Pair of Jeans
The tour doesn’t stop at FOB’s sewing floor. We also followed the denim further upstream to see how the fabric itself is made in Okayama — from indigo dyeing and yarn preparation to weaving.
The warp yarn passes repeatedly through indigo and air, gradually building the deep blue that will eventually fade differently for every wearer.
After dyeing, the yarn is prepared for weaving and sent to the loom.
Older looms move far more slowly than their modern counterparts and require constant attention from skilled operators. The result isn’t perfectly uniform fabric — and that subtle irregularity is part of what gives the denim its texture and character.
Some of these fabrics are now so difficult to produce that securing new production can take years.
A pair of jeans begins long before anyone starts sewing it.
A Factory Built to Keep Making Things This Way
There’s another side to that philosophy, too.
FOB continues to make its core styles rather than constantly replacing them with something new. Keeping those staples in production creates consistent work for its own factory and the specialist factories it works with throughout Japan.
It keeps machines running. It keeps skills in use.
And it gives another generation the opportunity to learn them.
The Value of a Permanent Collection
Fashion is built around the idea of what comes next. FOB is more interested in what stays.
The brand has spent decades refining jeans, trousers, jackets, and everyday clothing that don’t need to be reinvented every season.
The goal isn’t to make something that impresses you for five minutes. It’s to make something you keep reaching for years later.
That might be the best way to understand FOB FACTORY:
They make clothes for what comes next by preserving what was worth keeping in the first place.
Start With
the Denim
But choosing a pair isn’t only about fit. Different FOB jeans begin with different fabrics, looms, and references — each designed to age in its own way.
And for several of them, the story doesn’t stop at the jeans. Matching tops cut from the same denim let you wear the fabric as a full set — and watch both pieces evolve together over time.
Rather than simply reproducing a vintage 501XX, FOB studied what made those jeans work and developed its own interpretation: clean through the leg, easy to wear, and built from deeply dyed selvedge denim that reveals its character slowly over time.
Some fabrics are difficult to make. G3 denim is difficult to keep making at all.
Woven on the rare Toyoda G3 power loom at extremely low tension, the fabric develops the uneven surface, softness, and rough texture that modern high-speed looms are designed to eliminate.
The F147 brings that fabric into a slim tapered five-pocket jean — and for FW26, Haku will receive its final G3 delivery.

Worn together, the two pieces tell the full story of the fabric — from one of Japan’s rarest surviving looms to the way it changes with years of wear.
FOB started with the fabric itself, developing a 14oz selvedge denim to recreate the raw, rugged character of early workwear while giving the silhouette a softer, more wearable feel today.
