BUZZ RICKSONS
BUZZ RICKSONS / MA-1 1st Model
The "MA-1" was born in the early 1950s and has been loved by the Air Force and the fashion world for more than half a century.
The MA-1 has its roots in the B-15 series, a standard model born from technological innovation and a review of equipment with the advent of jet aircraft.
The simple silhouette without a collar is a timeless classic that fits not only military wear, but also casual wear and street wear. This is a royal flight jacket that carries a rich history while blending effortlessly with modern style.

BUZZ RICKSON’S
Established in 1993, BUZZ RICKSON’S is a brand dedicated to preserving the heritage and pride of vintage flight jackets. Every reproduction follows original U.S. military specifications—from yarn spinning and weaving to materials, hardware, and silhouette—crafted with uncompromising attention to detail and authentic military craftsmanship.
High-Performance Nylon Fabric Evolved Through History
The outer shell is made from Nylon 66, renowned for its exceptional heat resistance, strength, and subtle sheen. The lining is a firm poly-twill in a refined sage green tone that adds a mature, understated finish.
Deep brown stitching runs along each seam, capturing the original production methods of the era—where slight puckering and wrinkles naturally occurred during rapid manufacturing, faithfully recreated here.
Functional Design, Faithfully Reproduced
The MA-1’s defining feature is its collarless design replaced by a rib-knit neckline—allowing pilots to comfortably wear helmets while ensuring a snug, wind-resistant fit. Ribbed cuffs are crafted with a stepped-knit structure that fits naturally at the wrist.
On the left sleeve, the jacket features a classic U.S. Air Force print and a zippered utility pocket designed for cigarettes and pens, complete with four inner pen slots—an iconic detail of original flight jackets.
The internal tag proudly displays “MIL-J-8279,” the official military designation of the MA-1, honoring its authentic lineage from the B-15 series.
Two diagonal hand pockets with snap-button flaps are positioned at the front. Their angled design makes them easy to access while preventing contents from slipping out. The interiors are lined with a brushed fabric for warmth and comfort.
The front closure features the iconic CROWN zipper—a faithfully reproduced cast-metal model once used in the mid-20th century and now exclusively produced by BUZZ RICKSON’S.
The top of the storm flap is sharply squared, mirroring early MA-1 models. Together with the CROWN zipper, cord loop, and tonal lining, these carefully reconstructed elements make this piece a must-have for any military enthusiast seeking authenticity.
Timeless, Balanced Silhouette
The slightly relaxed fit provides versatility—effortlessly pairing with American casual, streetwear, or even contemporary fashion. Its universally flattering proportions and enduring appeal make it a jacket loved across generations and styles.

Staff comment
● Staff (165cm / 52kg) Build: Slim Wearing: Size S Wearing an oversized fit with plenty of room. The body is wide, and the length is short, creating a classic boxy silhouette. Even with size S, there is enough room, and wearing a thick knit underneath doesn’t feel tight. |
● Staff (171cm / 61kg) Build: Average Wearing: Size M / L A relaxed fit with just the right amount of room. The shoulder width drops slightly, and the sleeve length is appropriate. The length is short, just covering the belt, with a voluminous yet balanced look. Size L offers more room in the body and sleeves, and the length covers about half of the hips. |
● Staff (177cm / 67kg) Build: Average Wearing: Size L / XL Size L fits perfectly. The body has enough room for easy movement, and the rugged MA-1 silhouette shows well. The length is short, making it great for layering with innerwear. Size XL provides a more dropped shoulder and a trendy oversized fit. |
● Staff (181cm / 80kg) Build: Muscular Wearing: Size XL / XXL Size XL fits perfectly. Even with a muscular build, the body has plenty of room and it fits comfortably, giving a balanced loose silhouette. Size XXL offers even more room in the body and a longer length. For layering with thick clothing in winter, XXL is recommended. |
