One Fabric. Three Jackets. Made in Japan.

Dense, substantial, and remarkably smooth to the touch, moleskin has been a staple of European workwear for generations. Built for durability, it also has another quality we love: it gets better with wear.

This season, FOB FACTORY gives us three ways to experience it — from classic French workwear to a modern Haku / ROCOCO exclusive and a heavyweight riding jacket.

Same fabric. Three very different jackets.

First, What Is Moleskin?

Despite the name, there’s no mole involved. Moleskin is a densely woven cotton fabric with roots in European workwear, particularly the work jackets once worn across France.

Its tightly woven construction made it tough enough for daily labor, while its brushed surface gave it an unusually smooth, almost suede-like feel. Think of it as a close relative of canvas or denim — but softer, smoother, and a little more refined.

01 — The Original

French Moleskin Jacket
F2373

FOB’s heavyweight classic, rebalanced for the way we dress today.

This exclusive version starts with FOB FACTORY’s Riding Jacket and makes three key changes: a shorter length, a slightly wider body, and easier slash pockets.

The shorter proportion works naturally with wider trousers and contemporary silhouettes, while the roomier body and raglan sleeves leave space for a sweatshirt or knit underneath.

It’s fully lined with FOB’s reproduction VAT DYE Oxford, inspired by vintage M-51 military parkas, and finished with a double zipper based on American examples from the 1940s and ’50s.

Best for:Modern proportions / Wider trousers / Everyday layering

Weight: Approx. 960g

02 — The Modern One

Exclusive Short Riding Jacket
FRC008

Based on French work jackets from the 1950s, this is the simplest of the three — and perhaps the purest expression of moleskin.

A small collar, chest pocket and generously sized patch pockets keep its workwear roots intact, while the multi-panel construction creates a natural, three-dimensional silhouette.

It’s also the only unlined jacket of the three, making it the easiest to layer and wear across seasons.

Best for: Classic workwear / Easy layering / Everyday wear

Weight: Approx. 960g

03 — The Heavyweight

Riding Jacket
F2361

The most substantial of the three, this jacket takes inspiration from traditional British riding jackets and combines it with classic outdoor and military details.

A corduroy collar, chin strap, hand-warmer pockets, large gusseted flap pockets and underarm ventilation give it a more functional, outerwear-focused character.

Fully lined and weighing approximately 1.4kg, it has real substance, while raglan sleeves and a roomy silhouette leave plenty of space for layering.

Best for:Cold weather / Heavier layering / Maximum character

Weight: Approx. 1.4kg

FOB FACTORY is based in Kojima, Okayama — one of the centers of Japanese textile and denim production. The brand approaches clothing with a simple idea: make something you’ll still be glad you bought three years from now.

Moleskin is a natural expression of that philosophy. Durable from the start and designed to develop character with wear, these are jackets made to stay in your wardrobe for years.
