BUZZ RICKSONS has faithfully reproduced the late-model N-1 Deck Jacket, originally adopted in 1945 at the end of World War II, in Japan. This version is based on the khaki model issued in 1945, following the navy blue model of 1944.
The late model is defined by simplified details for improved practicality in combat: the alpaca mohair inside the cuffs has been omitted, loops at the underarm and hem cords have been rearranged, and the hem cord eyelets enlarged with repositioned underarm eyelets.
By trimming unnecessary details, the late-model N-1 retains its rugged charm while achieving a refined, final form—an iconic naval jacket that can be enjoyed as modern street wear.

Established in 1993, BUZZ RICKSONS is a brand dedicated to preserving the history and pride of flight jackets. Each jacket is meticulously reproduced according to original military specifications, from yarn spinning and weaving to materials, hardware, and overall form, delivering vintage craftsmanship with authentic appeal.
Rugged Warmth: Jungle Cloth × Alpaca Wool
The outer fabric is made from high-density cotton grosgrain, known as “Jungle Cloth” and originally adopted during WWII. Its tightly woven plain-weave construction—with fine warp threads and thick weft threads—creates pronounced ridges, giving the fabric a rugged, durable, and wind-resistant texture.
The lining features luxurious alpaca mohair and wool pile. Long alpaca fibers are looped to trap air, providing exceptional insulation. Thanks to natural oils, alpaca feels soft to the touch with less itchiness compared to typical sheep’s wool. Its excellent moisture absorption and release properties help prevent dampness, keeping you comfortable.
Vintage-Inspired Functional Details
The neck features a stand-up collar with a chin strap that keeps you warm without a scarf. 
The front features a wide flap with buttons and a zipper for maximum wind protection, preventing drafts from entering through the zipper. The zipper pull is slightly longer for easy use while wearing gloves, and the TALON zipper has been upgraded from nickel to brass for authenticity.
Four underarm ventilation eyelets allow airflow. In the late model, their position was revised and the eyelets enlarged for improved practicality.
Large side pockets are designed to be accessible even while wearing gloves.
The sleeves feature a double-layer rib for warmth and cold protection, providing a cleaner, less bulky fit compared to earlier models that used alpaca mohair.
Interior loops at the underarm and hem reference vintage life jacket cords, but have been simplified compared to earlier models. Hem drawcords are enlarged in the late model, improving usability, blocking wind, and allowing silhouette adjustment.
Chest stenciling “U.S.N.” evokes the authentic atmosphere of WWII naval garments.
Modern-Fit, Timeless Style
The slightly short, vintage-inspired silhouette works perfectly with chinos or denim, creating a classic military or American casual look.

●Staff (165cm/52kg) Body type: Slim Wearing: Size 36/38 Wore over a thick long-sleeve T-shirt and it fit perfectly. Shoulders were snug, and the body width had a little extra space. The sleeves covered the back of the hands, and the length reached about half the hips. If wearing over a thicker, lighter sweatshirt, the shoulders and body may feel tight, so I would recommend sizing up. |

●Staff (171cm/61kg) Body type: Regular Wearing: Size 40 Wore over a long-sleeve T-shirt and it fit perfectly. The design is made for warmth, so it’s best worn with no more than a long-sleeve T-shirt or a light sweatshirt underneath. The shoulders and body were snug, with no discomfort. The sleeves covered the hands, and the length reached about half the hips. |

If you want a bit more room, I’d choose size 44, but the sleeves would be a little longer, reaching the fingers. Despite wearing a thin base layer, it still provides solid warmth! |

●Staff (181cm/80kg) Body type: Muscular Wearing: Size 44 Size 44 offered a slightly more relaxed fit. Even with a thick base layer, there was no tightness around the shoulders or arms. The length covered about two-thirds of the hips, and the sleeves reached the back of the hands. |
