MBT
Founded in Switzerland in 1996, MBT takes its name from “Masai Barefoot Technology.” The brand was inspired by the natural, fatigue-resistant way the Masai people walk, often covering over 100 kilometers a day. Through collaboration with research institutions, MBT developed footwear designed to promote improved posture and a more natural walking motion.





Detail-driven craftsmanship
The upper features traditional Japanese Kumihimo braiding, crafted by hand in a century-old factory. Reminiscent of a traditional "ZORI" (thonged sandal), this design encourages walking with full-foot engagement.



Also, the straps cross over the instep for a hands-free, slip-on experience, offering two ways to wear these sandals.





The footbed uses “Castella” foam, developed by Kobe-based air-rubber brand buntA.

This material provides excellent water and weather resistance, along with anti-odor and antimicrobial properties. Its large air-cells create a lightweight, cushioned feel underfoot.



At the heart of MBT’s technology is the MBT Sensor located in the heel. It mimics the natural instability of walking barefoot on uneven terrain, even when walking on flat, paved surfaces.

This instability gently activates underused muscles critical for posture and overall body alignment, promoting a healthier and more balanced walking style with less strain on joints and muscles.

Typically, the material begins to lose strength around 3-5 years after manufacture. Product lifespan may vary depending on storage and usage conditions. The contrast between the braided upper and chunky sole creates a well-balanced silhouette with just the right amount of volume. The result is a clean, modern sandal that adds character and ease to any outfit.
