From EDWIN’s new “SKEWed” collection comes a “familiar yet fresh” denim, based on the 501xx, finished with intentional twists.
This denim features a pronounced diagonal weave. Normally, denim is twisted in the opposite direction to counter natural skewing, but this design intentionally emphasizes the fabric’s inherent twist across the entire surface.
The twist creates a tapered effect within a trendy wide silhouette. Unique details prevent the pants from looking too heavy or bulky, giving them a modern, wearable finish.

A new collection from EDWIN, one of Japan’s leading denim brands since 1961. “SKEWed” refers to the natural twisting characteristic of denim—a concept embodied throughout the line. Drawing from both heritage and innovation, SKEWed creates products that reinterpret the history of denim with a modern eye.
The beauty of twist and selvage
The fabric is “Rainbow Selvage Denim,” woven in a left-hand twill using a blend of American and Japanese cotton. Additional skew processing introduces further twisting, enhancing the natural rightward twist typical of right-hand twill.
Rainbow Selvage Denim is a premium EDWIN fabric originally produced for the European market and remains reserved for the brand’s higher-end lines.
Its blended cotton structure offers durability, along with a beautifully aged, vintage-like fade that deepens with wear.
Where classic detailing meets individuality
The base model draws inspiration from the “501xx” of the 1950s, featuring a traditional Coin Pocket on the front.
Suspenders buttons at the waist reflect old-world craftsmanship, allowing the jeans to be worn the traditional way—held by suspenders while maintaining a secure fit.
The button fly uses V-shaped stitching, faithfully replicating details found in pre-1960s denim before reverse-stitching machines existed.
The cinch back adds a visual accent and preserves the charm of vintage workwear.
The fabric’s distinctive rightward twist and the three-dimensional detailing throughout are greatly amplified by the skew process.
Rolling up the hem reveals noticeably shifted stitch lines, a feature unique to this denim.
